Sixth Stanza
Sometimes I think I can see all the things you planned to say
in all the media ways you have to say it. All the things I hear,
all the ways to mishear, all the ways to make mistakes.
One-hundred ways to miss in listening, listening, listening
with telescopes. It was a bad idea, a mistake, the great lovely
mistakes that behead you, what you can’t let go of
even if you decided to (and you can believe I decided to),
but you can’t let go of your own self then can you,
all those places where you disagree with me in the dim
black and white, what shouldn’t exist, what shouldn’t be the case,
what you shouldn’t have to put up with, for fuck sake,
what shouldn’t have to be this hard, should be so much easier,
sympathetic, consoling and full of light instead of this rough noise,
but you keep listening into the noise. The drops of sound they all fall
where they may, (and they cruelly may), in a wild splatter
of misunderstandings, and then the quiet afterwards
where all that is left is the collateral damage, the quiet
birdless nothing of our own weeping. >>>
